Talk about Walkabout

No posts tell the story of little work being done, but I guess there are things worth mentioning by way of a “I’m still doing it” ping for all 4 people who seem to come by and read my scratchings.

I’ve got a simple roaming group algorithm done, whereby I can spawn a group of a certain number and they’ll go wandering about the landscape picking berries and what-not until they find a place where they can live and then settle down. Right now, they won’t die if hey run out of food, as this seems a bit pointless, but I may need to add that at some point to ensure that the map doesn’t become stuffed with roaming hordes of the ever-living (Mumm-Ra!).

Next I need to have the settlements breed people and occasionally spit out new settler groups and then I need to work out the criteria for spawning a recognised population-centre village/town/city object. I intend to have all that up and working by the end of the weekend to make up for the crappy progress in the week. This is both not a huge amount of work and also somewhat ambitious considering how lazy I’m feeling, so we’ll see how that goes.

After that, I want to move on to creating a web-browser view of the dynamic map and having the settler AI running on a tick. This is in order to finally get around to closing the loop that I said I would do a few weeks back and also because it’s visible progress and it’s more interesting for anyone who happens to stop by here. I’ll make the statement that something will be up and viewable by next weekend. It’ll be nasty though, I assure you – coder graphics all the way.
