I Like Surprises

Sort of.

I discovered that the mod_python FAQ suggestion about persistent variables was a bit misleading and so had to try another tack to cut the page time. I thought that loading the map from file would be faster, so I implemented a check on the last db update and only downloaded from the db when an update had occured and then saved the map to file. This worked fine except that loading from file took twice as long as loading from the db, so all it achieved was slowing down the db access version too as this now had the overhead of saving the map.

You live and learn.
