So Why Are All The Presentations I Go To So Dull?
I’ve just finished watching the Snakes and Rubies video, and it’s thoroughly recommended for anyone interested in what Django, Ruby on Rails or just web frameworks as a whole are all about. I wish I’d seen it six months ago as it would have cleared up a lot of confusion. Both Adrian Holovaty and David Heinemeier Hansson gave excellent presentations and there was an interesting clash of styles between the brash but likeable Hansson and the much more laid-back delivery of Holovaty. What they both demonstrated was a huge enthusiasm for their projects and languages and a shared commitment to creating elegant, pleasing code that helps other programmers do the same.
There was a bit of coincidental Java-bashing, considering my post from the 24th, and they expressed some really interesting general opinions about where the industry as a whole will (or should) be heading in the future. I shall try and make time to explore some of the issues in a post or two myself, as I’m still really not sure where I stand on many of the issues. In the meantime I just suggest that you check it out.
